GPS fence technology is most reliable with properties larger than 3/4 acre. For properties smaller than 3/4 acre, shop our non-GPS wireless fences to unleash joy for your dogs!

Yes, the My PetSafe app allows you to monitor your dog’s collar battery life and adjust the correction settings, provided the collar is within the base unit’s range of about 300 feet.

This pet fence is intended to provide a simple and customizable way to keep your dog safely in your yard. It is not a tracker.

When placing digital fence posts to create the boundary, ensure they are at least 25 feet away from off-limits areas like busy roads. Dense overhead tree coverage, like heavily wooded areas, may cause signal quality loss.

If there’s a power outage, or your Wi-Fi network goes out, the collar will continue to operate as intended and keep your dog safely within the boundary.

I should have looked closer at the packaging for this before ordering. It turns out that our property is not the proper use case for this product. However, I was able to test its features and came away very impressed. The PetSafe Guardian fence system will work best for those with large properties (> 3/4 acres) with at least some unfenced portions. You need 25 feet of clearance from the hard boundary you are trying to enforce. This is due to the occasional inaccuracy of the GPS and thereby ensures that your dog gets enough warning before entering, say, a busy road. Smaller properties would not work as well with the GPS fence shrinking it down 25 feet on all sides. In addition to a large property, the prospective buyer will need time and patience. The training program lasts several weeks to teach your pooch where the boundary is so that they do not think that the beeps and buzzes are arbitrary. Once they are trained, it is best to carry or drive your dog outside of the fence borders so as not to confuse them.If the property and time requirements are not an issue for you (nor the high cost), then you have a great solution with the Guardian GPS fence system. All components are well-built and durable. The collar is plastic but of a much higher grade than any other collar I have used. High-quality materials and designs are used across the board. The battery on the collar is removable and rechargeable. The included charger can charge two batteries at once. Only one battery is included, so purchasing a spare is a good idea for those who use the collar heavily. The setup is intuitive and well-designed. You use a satellite map on your phone to draw the fence. It is very accurate. Impressively so. The instructions note that poor weather or structural obstructions may reduce its accuracy. There are no issues in my experience, however. The collar can be set to an audible beep, an electrical buzz, or both. On the lowest setting, I could barely feel the buzz on my palm. Experimentation will be necessary with your dog to see at what level they react.Besides the high-quality materials and impressive accuracy, my favorite feature of this system is that there is no subscription. You pay the (admittedly high) upfront cost, and then you are done. In a world where subscription costs are suffusing our daily existence, this is a nice change.

The technology behind this collar is impressive. It was super easy to setup on our parent’s multi-acre property, keeping our pup within the property lines and away from the road after a bit of training. You can search “PetSafe Guardian GPS” on youtube to see how to set it up and what kind of training is required before buying this yourself. In term of the limitations, everyone needs to be aware of is that the GPS technology in these collars can suffer from “GPS Drift”, which means the boundary you set in the map, may drift a few feet, day-to-day, based on various weather conditions, obstacles, and other factors. The product description clearly states that: “When placing digital fence posts to create the boundary, ensure they are at least 25 feet away from off-limits areas like busy roads.”. I knew that before getting it, so I don’t fault the product. But because the boundary should be 25 feet inside the property, this collar only makes sense if you have a couple of acres of land. The product description also states that: “Dense overhead tree coverage, like heavily wooded areas, may cause signal quality loss.”. The property we are using this on is cleared with a few trees in the yard, so this is a non-issue for us, but those with densely wooded areas they want to set the boundary in may want to reconsider getting this collar. This collar works well for us based on the fact that we are using it on a cleared, multi-acre property with a few sparse trees in it. I can’t fault the product for known limitations that are stated in the description. One last thing to note is that this GPS collar system is that it does NOT require a monthly subscription like the competing Halo brand does, so that’s something to consider when comparing with other GPS collar products.

This invisible fence is an interesting product that works well. You do need a fairly large yard and an area free of structures in order to create the correct boundary. If you have a heavily wooded backyard, the GPS signal might not work well. Within reason, you can set the boundary up however you want. This is great for people who rent or who don’t want to or aren’t able to install an actual fence for whatever reason. This kit comes with one collar. The collar is super durable and waterproof. It works for 72 hours on a 4-hour charge, which seems pretty good to me. You can add additional collars (sold separately) if you need them. One thing I really like about this is that once you pay for this, you own it. You don’t need to pay for a software subscription or pay fees for an app or anything. Everything you need for set up is in the box. As long as your yard is compatible with this product, I think it’s great!

I live in the desert and have a friend who brings her Malamute over so I essentially ordered this for visiting pets since I don’t have a fence. I’m not a fan of the correction but it actually does work, even with her massive furry ‘mute. It took a couple of hours to set up, create the boundaries and test. You’re going to want to test the proximities without the collar on your dog. It took a few hours for the dog to acclimate to where the boundaries are. My Aussie doesn’t leave our property lines but if she does, he will follow her and get a correction which is brutal for a dog to understand if she can cross and he can’t. It is fantastic to be able to keep track of him as well. Now I can dog sit with a bit more peace of mind and not worry about them wandering too far. Cool gadget if you aren’t on a budget. Super nice not to have to mess with wires, lines or burying anything. Good product, especially if you don’t have anything obstructing like trees. Other than some brush and a couple of saguaros, it’s free and clear.

This Petsafe GPS fence is great. I love that there isn’t a subscription fee with this. It was easy to set up. It even allowed me to section off where we keep the chickens. It’s got enough power to really get the dogs attention and warns him before he’s near the edge. It’s nice to be able to let my dog run outside and he loves it.

  6. Tricey

I recently bought a house but the fence needs to be fixed in some spots. This works great to keep my dog contained to the yard and not greeting the neighbors everyday. It only took a couple of shocks for her to get used to it.

  7. PipSqueak

Easy to set upGreat for a learning pupGets good receptionNo issues so far

  8. Smart Shopper

Setting up the boundary was straightforward with the smartphone sync feature, allowing me to customize the fence to the specifics of my yard. The GPS technology is indeed reliable, with real-time tracking providing peace of mind that my dog is safe. I appreciate the subscription-free GPS service, which makes it a cost-effective long-term solution. The battery life is impressive, requiring infrequent recharges.
